Hi there
I''m arriving in Slovenia and looking for suggestions for some fun and stunning peaks and treks. I climb fast so can hopefully make some good summits or nice long hikes.
I live in West Canada and am travelling with ice axe and crampons, and happy to make some challenging hikes, but since I''m alone probably not too dangerous.
Any suggestions for some brilliant days out, I have about 10 days to enjoy the mountains.
If there is anyone looking for a partner for a day out, let me know.
Thanks
Michele

Hi there!

No need to tell you that the northern faces and mountain sides still have quite a lot of snow as oposed to their southern faces, so be prepared for summer/winter conditions on your hikes. An easy trek that you can do and make stunning pictures is Velika planina, it is easy accessible, the routes are labeled and the hiking experience is encompanied by stunning views of the Kamniško-Savinjske alpe (Kamnik alps). Another easy route is Viševnik, which is located above Bled. You can combine the visit to Bled with a trip to Viševnik from Rudno polje, which is accessible by car (asphalt road with a big parking). Viševnik is known for a stunning view of the Julian Alps and the highest peak of Slovenia - Triglav is in your "grasping distance". A really nice view. For a bit longer hike I would recomend Stol (Hochsthul), which is located above Jesenice city. The southern side is a quite well established route to the summit, even in winter conditions, but of course be prepared for winter conditions at that time. A longer trip could be a trip to Kredarica from Krma (easy access to the starting point). You can also sleep there. Kredarica is the highest mountain hut in Slovenia, it is at the slope of Mt. Triglav and if you are experienced enough, you could climb it, but beware of the weather and conditions. Assess your ability accordingly. There are also stunning easy hikes and treks from above Bohinj. If you drive to Planina Blato, you can hike on well established hiking routes to our famous seven triglav lakes (Sedmera Triglavska jezera) and also maybe do a circle-back route, if the passage above Prehodavci is not snowed. But also this route can still have quite some snow on it. For easyier information of planning your (own)trip I advise you to use www.geopedia.si There you click on the left side Pohodništvo (not Pohodništvo (pespoti.si) ) and then on the right side of the screen on the map, where it says Topo, you expand the menu and select Topo Quo. By doing so, you get a map of Slovenia where hiking routes and trails are marked according to the dificulty (green-easy, orange-harder, red-hard). Hope I gave you some good advice, I know others on hribi.net will help out as well. Welcome to SLO and enjoy! velik nasmeh
Best,
Ben
